Challenges In Acquiring English

Hello everyone!

Nice to meet you again! Today, I want to share with you guys 10 of my challenges in acquiring English. It's not a simple language to master actually...and I still have a long way to improve my English :(

First of all,

1) I'm not master in grammar. English grammar is actually complex, difficult to remember and need to be use logically. I'm always use it wrongly. hehe.. This is because incorrect use of grammar can confuse the person that you are talking with especially to those who are hyper aware of grammar..

2) I'm poor in vocabulary.. It's very confusing for non-English speaker like me to master because as we know English has the biggest vocabularies of all languages..

3) I tend to spell words incorrectly. I think this is because I was exposed to many differences colloquialisms and simplified words for thing like texting. Such as when texting, I always use short form. This is my bad habits that I cannot throw nowadays.. and I think this is not only my habits but yours too!

4) I have problem in listening. I'm not DEAF! haha. Actually, it's become problem when I cannot understand the question that have been ask because the one who asking speaks too fast and I need to ask them again for many times :(

5) I'm also lacking of experiences in speaking English. I rarely speaks to other people using English language especially when I met foreigners. Often, I’ll avoid to be with them and I think this is my flaw.

6) I’m also have low self-confidence because to me it is different when  the language I am using is not my first language. I find it is hard to express myself and feel not comfortable.

7) I’m afraid to speak English especially to the foreigners. It would be even weirder if I spoke broken English, because I rarely use this language.

8) The medium of instruction in school that I use is Malay. This means everything such as Biology, Physic, Chemistry and Mathematics are taught in Malay except English. This make me using more Malay when at school compare to English. This also bring disadvantages for the future such as when we are common with this situation, it will be hard for us when facing different environment of studying. The main language in this world is English. So, this will be difficult for us to adapt with the situation and making us become more stress.

9) Lack of practice. I don't really like to read any English books. One of the reason is because when I'm reading the book, I easily get bored because of some words that I cannot understand.

10) Negative perception among community. Many people especially Malays become very under estimate with people who talks in English. This type of behavior really discourage the learners who want to increase their language level.

In the nutshell, I hope I can become  master in my English and I will always try to practice English Language because Practice Is The Key To Success.

‘It does not matter how many hours you spend on studying English. The only thing that matters is how many hours you spend using it.’

  1. We don't grow when things are easy. But we grow when we faced challenges. Therefore, don't be afraid to speak in English even if the world might laugh on you because I believe you can do it.
